Acquirer is an additional Cyndx tool which offers AI-generated and curated recommendations based on a company's prior investment and acquisition history.

Get started by navigating to the Finder search page

Welcome to Acquirer! Let us show you around.

Acquirer is a recommendation algorithm vs. the Cyndx Finder search engine. The intent with Acquirer is to take prior acquisitions of a company and the acquisition activity within its cohort and output a bespoke list of companies that may be both of interest and meet the criteria for follow-on M&A.

Find your next acquisition

Prior to performing a search around acquisition recommendations, you should be advised that in order to be "Acquirer eligible" a company needs the following:

  • At least 2 prior acquisitions

    • Acquisitions must be mapped

    • Acquisitions must be strategic

Additionally, only companies meeting the below criteria will be displayed as possible recommended targets:

  • Company is mapped in the Cyndx database

  • Company is not acquired or closed

  • Company is not larger in revenue size than the input company

  • Company has a description

Inputting your search criteria

As an acquirer looking for acquisition targets that are similar to company or in a specific vertical using a concept search, it will help center your results by adding a comparable and, or a related concept.

There are four types of searches you can do on Acquirer:

  1. Acquirer

  2. Acquirer + concept

  3. Acquirer + comparable company

  4. Acquirer + concept + comparable company

Understanding your Acquirer results

All companies listed in your results must pass some requirements to display here. In order for a company to be eligible as a probable acquisition fit company, it needs to have the following criteria:

  • It should have a description

  • It should not be closed

  • It should not be acquired

Like Finder, Acquirer displays a Score, but it shows how likely the inputted company is to acquire the company listed. Depending on the filter of your search, you can manipulate your results to fit your criteria.

How is Acquirer different from Finder?

While both Finder and Acquirer are tools used in the context of company search and discovery, their functionalities and intents differ significantly. Finder acts as a search engine, assisting in bubbling up companies similar to a specified company or concept, while Acquirer functions as a recommendation engine, leveraging prior acquisition data to provide specific recommendations for potential acquisition targets.

Performing a concept or company search in Finder is not the same as adding a concept or comparable company in Acquirer. With Finder, the question you are asking is “what are the similar companies to my input company?” or “what are the companies that are in the space of my input concept?”. Irrespective of who runs the search, results will be the same. Contrarily, with the AcquisitionFit model, the primary focus is on the acquirer and its prior M&A activity. Adding a concept and/or comparable company to your Acquirer search will skew the output companies in one direction or another, yet the recommendations are tailored for the acquiring company only.
