Cyndx Finder helps you discover and analyze companies across industries by using advanced filtering and free-text search capabilities. With access to 26M+ companies globally, Finder allows you to quickly map competitive landscapes, identify acquisition targets, and spot high-growth companies that meet your specific criteria, as well as become informed on active investors, acquirers and news in a space. Here’s a guide to get started with Finder’s powerful features and customizable search filters.

Finder search by companies

If you already have a company in mind and would like to see similar lookalikes, the fastest way to search for a company is by company name. If you do not immediately see the company name in the search typeahead, try entering the website URL (e.g. uber.com).

When typing in a company or concept, select an option displayed in the drop down menu to start a search.

If you do not see a company appear in the search typeahead, you will see the option to add it to our database for mapping in the left hand nav panel. In the meantime, try using a competitor or by freely typing in "concepts" to begin your search.

From your results, you can select the most relevant company(s) to run a new Finder search. On the bottom right corner of each company listed, you will see an option "See similar companies".

You can also iterate upon your original search: from your results list, you can add more search inputs to the search bar at the top. This will allow you to target your search results for the companies most relevant to you.

ex: coupling Amazon and Netflix together will refine the initial search around Amazon closer towards the streaming sector

Finder 2.0 search by concepts

Our Finder search runs on NLP (natural language processing) technology, so think of the way a company describes its products / services and what it does. The companies that most use the terms you provide will display most prominently in your results.

You can enter any concept to search using "free text search". In free text search, the system will look for the entered words across all fields or areas of the dataset rather than restricting the search to specific fields. For example, if you’re searching for “growth-stage tech companies in California” in a database, a free text search would look for matches in various fields—like company descriptions, locations, funding rounds, and keywords—rather than just one specific category.

Free text search refers to a search method that allows users to enter words or phrases freely into a search bar without needing to follow predefined categories or structures. It enables users to type in any terms, often in natural language, to search across a database, document, or website for relevant information.

This approach can make searches faster and more flexible, as users don’t need to know exact categories or follow a specific format for results.

Recommendations for strong searches

Combine multiple competitors in an industry, OR combine multiple concepts (i.e. drug development + embryonic stem cells). The more you give the search bar to specify the companies you want to see, the more precisely defined cohort we can bring you, and the more accurate insights about that cohort we can provide.

Note: When searching multiple concepts or companies, your search will be performed with an AND operator. This means you will first be returned companies who use all terms, ie: healthcare AND oncology AND cancer research. It can be helpful to run a search around single terms as well so that you do limit your results to companies who use one or two concepts, but not all three.

Filtering

We typically recommend starting your search without filters, then adding as you iterate your search. In this way, you won't eliminate relevant companies that you would expect to see.

  • Location: Choose by broad region (North America, Latin America, etc.), country, or state

  • Company Type: Select the type of company you'd like to display within your Finder search results; Public, Private, Closed, or Acquired

  • Projected to Raise: The companies you'll be returned will be tagged as Projected to Raise capital within the next 6 months based on their previous funding rounds

  • Has Financials: Filter out companies that do not have any financial information on their company profile page

  • Funding Stage: The funding stage filter allows users to narrow search results by a particular funding round. Finder search now allows you to specify a range of funding stages of a company for your desired results.

  • SPAC: Filter for companies that are tagged as a Special Purpose Acquisition Company

  • Fairness Opinion: Filter for companies with discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis, comparable company analysis, and precedent transaction analysis from a financial advisor. Read more

  • Employee Count: Filter by the size of the company using our Employee Count filter

  • Web presence: Allows you to control the size companies you get back based on the amount of web traffic visiting their site

  • Company Age: Allows you to filter for younger or older companies

  • Funding Amount: Allows you to filter for companies based on the total funding a company has received
